FAQs about the Medicinal Cannabis Primary Dysmenorrhoea Study

Can I still drive while participating in the Medicinal Cannabis Period Pain Study?

YES! If you are using the available CBD Isolates only, just let the doctor know that this is your preference during your study onboarding.
Initially the study formulary did not include a CBD isolate. Because whole flower medicines all contain some THC (even trace amounts), in line with Australian (state-based) driving laws, the advice we were required to give was that no driving was permitted. We soon recognised that this was a barrier to inclusion, so we have now added Two CBD isolate products (oils) to the formulary – so participants, as long as they only use those products, are able to drive under Australian law with no risk of driving impairment or legal ramifications.
It is only illegal to drive with THC in your system, so a CBD isolate is a risk-free participation option.
In addition to the CBD isolates available, the study formulary contains a complete range of flowers, oils, and vapes which do contain THC, and if you choose to use these products (a decision made with the Study doctor), then it is illegal to drive, even if you are not impaired. THC can remain present in your body for days or weeks. Therefore, driving is only safe and legal if you are prescribed and strictly adhere to a CBD Isolate product from our formulary. This rule applies across all States and Territories.
If you would like to discuss your options further, call the friendly Study clinic team on 1300 413 379 – we would love to speak with you!

I’ve previously used cannabis products for my Primary Dysmenorrhoea symptoms but did not find it helpful. How can this study help me?

In this study, doctors at Natura Clinic will individualise cannabis medications and their dosing for you based on your symptoms, your circumstances, and your preferences. The study formulary includes oils, flower, and vapes for inhalation, with a variety of strengths and formulations. The study doctors are very experienced in providing clinical care and will work with you to manage your symptoms in a way that suits you, and will guide you throughout the process. You can discuss treatment options during the telehealth consultations which are a part of the study, and you can speak to the friendly study team on weekdays at any time. If you have any doubts, call the study team on 1300 413 379 and they will talk you through your eligibility and answer any questions you may have.

I have recently consumed cannabis - can I still participate in the Medicinal Cannabis Primary Dysmenorrhoea Study?

Yes! Even if you currently use or have used cannabis in the past two months, you may still be eligible to participate following an eight week wash out period. That means, you need to be cannabis free for 8 weeks before beginning the study. Call now, and we can place you on the study waitlist so that in eight weeks you can begin without delay. There are a number of women currently completing washout periods to participate in the study.

I have never tried cannabis - can I still participate?

Absolutely! As long as you meet the other eligibility criteria, you are most welcome. Many people try medicinal cannabis for the first time as a part of research. Under the care of our experienced doctors and study team you will have full support to explore cannabis as a therapeutic option to manage your symptoms. Call the study team on 1300 413 379 and they will talk you through your eligibility and answer any questions you may have.
