FAQs about the Medicinal Cannabis for Menopause Symptoms Study

Am I eligible to participate if I’m currently taking Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)/Menopausal Hormone Therapy (MHT)?

Yes! As long as you have not recently started or completed, or made significant changes to your HRT/MHT then it is likely you are able to participate in the Medicinal Cannabis for Menopause Symptoms Study. Call the study team on 1300 413 379 and they will talk you through your eligibility and answer any questions you may have. We would love to hear from you.

Can I still drive while participating in the Medicinal Cannabis for Menopause Symptoms Study?

YES! If you are using the available CBD Isolates only, just let the doctor know that this is your preference during your study onboarding.
Initially the study formulary did not include a CBD isolate. Because whole flower medicines all contain some THC (even trace amounts), in line with Australian (state-based) driving laws, the advice we were required to give was that no driving was permitted. We soon recognised that this was a barrier to inclusion, so we have now added Two CBD isolate products (oils) to the formulary – so participants, as long as they only use those products, are able to drive under Australian law with no risk of driving impairment or legal ramifications.
It is only illegal to drive with THC in your system, so a CBD isolate is a risk-free participation option.
In addition to the CBD isolates available, the study formulary contains a complete range of flowers, oils, and vapes which do contain THC, and if you choose to use these products (a decision made with the Study doctor), then it is illegal to drive, even if you are not impaired. THC can remain present in your body for days or weeks. Therefore, driving is only safe and legal if you are prescribed and strictly adhere to a CBD Isolate product from our formulary. This rule applies across all States and Territories.
If you would like to discuss your options further, call the friendly Study clinic team on 1300 413 379 – we would love to speak with you!
